We have been live with BMV/eMAR for over a year now and your example has not
caused any confusion, that has been reported to me. But his scenario does cause
some confusion: A drug is ordered QAM to start tomorrow. The current time is
past the defined QAM dose time, so even if you leave the Start Time as "now",
the first dose to be schedule won't be until tomorrow am. So to avoid phone
calls, or rejections, we try to enter the order as the doctor wrote it and
change the Start Date to tomorrow and the Start Time to 0000.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Pharmacy start times and BMV CS5.5

Hi All,
We have just implemented BMV house wide and have a question about order
verification and the start time that displays in BMV. When we enter a Pharmacy
order to start at 2100 at 1530, the time displayed in the left hand column of
the BMV screen headed START/STOP is the system time the order was entered
(1530). Our nurses are having issues because it leads them to believe that the
order starts NOW, even though the next scheduled dose column in BMV shows 2100.
When they do the acknowledgement of the order, the acknowledgement screen does
not contain the next scheduled column so that they can see all the information
they need to verify that order in one place. I think we are fighting a
training issue, but our nursing administration wants us in Pharmacy to actually
tab down during order entry and change the order time to start at 2100 so
everything lines up for verification. This is not part of our routine and will
add considerably to the burden of order entry; and more key strokes equal more
chance for error. Before we make sweeping changes in our routine, how are
other sites handling this?
Thanks in advance,
Sue
