This question is for those of you who are using CS 5.5 and I'm hoping to tap into your knowledge base since we have only been live for two weeks.
We are trying to figure out how to handle orders that are written like this: Toradol 30mg IM q6h prn x3 doses. Here at our facility this order is written to mean that the patient can have these three doses at any time during their stay and then the order is to be discontinued. We enter the order with the siq of q6h with a schedule of PRN, the stop date/time is defined by our state board of pharmacy that all drugs must be reviewed/renewed at a minimum of every 14 days - so 14 days is the default stop date. If we enter that the order is for 3 doses, the stop date/time is then changed by the system to match the siq and number of doses. This is a problem - and impacts a whole slew of things including the med dropping off of Pyxis when they patient may not have received all of the doses before the system stop date/time. Hopefully someone out there can understand what I'm trying to say and found a workable solution for this scenario. So if you are that person (or persons) I would love to hear how you worked thru this. Thanks for your input and advice.
