We have just converted to using MIS Editor in M-tech over the last month
for radiology first and then for OE as well. We are using Stedman's
Spellcheck, Smartype, and Dictionary with it. I can't speak to the
printing and faxing issues with any expertise, but I can speak to the
transcription issues. We have not been able to get it working
consistently for us. The Smartype works for those who connect to the
hospital via VPN - but does not work well for those coming in through
Citrix. It's not saving new additions to stored text. The spellcheck
seems to be all right though it sometimes marks an error in a correct
word. The dictionary, if opened while actively transcribing a report,
locks up and freezes the whole system. We have only been able to get it
to work if it is opened and minimized before a document has been opened
- which is weird since you have to be in a document to get the Stedman's
button on the tool bar.

We are working with Stedman's to try to resolve some of these issues,
but to date, we don't yet have any answers.
Every now and then, Smartype will just disappear and has to be disabled
and then reenabled.

There are some words that appear in the SmartList but do not appear in
the text when you choose them, i.e., IDDM, NIDDME, MRSAE.

Hyphenated words turn up in m-tech with only the part of the word after
the hyphen.

Numbered lists don't show up in m-tech.

Sometimes capitol letters don't show up at the beginning of a sentence
once a report gets to m-tech.

There is an issue with the headers, etc., entered as SmartBlocks staying
bolded when they get to m-tech.

Please let me know what you are finding as you go.

Thanks,

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Stedmans

Is anyone out there using Stedmans spellchecker in $TRAD. We have
purchased it but now learn we have to run a conversion of all the
current RAD reports and that they will take up about twice as much space
as they currently do to store the attributes. They also say users must
use the MIS text editor and a lot of testing is needed to be sure it
works well in RAD and it changes the way users print and fax. I am
furious with meditech for not telling me this in advance but need to
move forward so am looking for anyone that has already done this.
Thanks!
