We have found that Medicare is denying screening colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies because they allow one every 120 months. As a result, because we aren't getting ABN's for these services, we are writing off entire accounts. We need to find a way to get ABN's (frequency denials allow blanket ABNs) for these procedures, since they don't go through the order entry medical necessity checks. We are scheduling and documenting on the procedure in MSM. We transmit the finalized cases into Meditech the next day.
