You can run the 3.x client just fine under Wine (www.winehq.com). I
have not been able to get the 4.x client to run under Wine despite a
moderate level of effort. I gave up trying because I was able to do 99%
of what I needed through the 3.x client (OPS, MIS), and if that fails I
can get to the 4.x client by using terminal services.
Perhaps I should make a wiki page for this when I have some time.
