Our Process: * The computer generated MAR is printed nightly at 0100, it has admin times in the box where the nurse initials * Throughout the 24 hours as new meds are ordered a label is generated, this label is used in the order checking process and then placed on the MAR * Throughout the 24 hours, if a med is discontinued, that item is "yellowed out" on the MAR itself. ALSO, Pharmacy produces a label which is used in the order check process then placed on the BACK of the current MAR * The new MAR is checked against the previous MAR while referencing the original orders.
Using a computer generated MAR is a key step on the way to eMAR/BMV. We are just starting to move from a hand written MAR in our acute nursing areas. The long term care site has used it for years and is comfortable with the process, but we are having trouble getting it going in acute. The biggest debate is over the frequency of printing and the MAR checks. So, a few questions: 1. How often do you print the MAR in the acute areas? 2. Do you do a MAR check when re-printing, or more frequently? 3. What do you check the printed MAR against? The previous MAR? Thank you so much for any help you could give us. Diane
