We have recently come across a major roadblock with our EDM implementation and
hope that someone has a solution that will be acceptable to our HIMS
department. With 40,000++ ED patients per yr. the decision was made that we
would not be printing every physician order placed in EDM (to much paper). The
issue from Medical Records is what do we print when we have a request for the
entire medical record? We suggested the Provider Order Summary, but found a
problem with orders that are edited. If a procedure has a CDS attached and an
edit is made after it is filed the order summary does not capture the original
documentation only the edited data. For example an order is placed for vital
signs to be done every 30 minutes and the order is then changed via the
View/Change button to be every 2 hrs. The summary shows the new Q2H and the
original Q30 minutes is nowhere to be seen. This is a MAJOR issue with our
HIMS staff. They feel that they are not sending the complete medical record.

Question: How have you solved the issue of printing a summary of all orders
placed via EDM? Do you have a custom report, do you print all orders?
