Are you using CWS? If so, you can identify insurances that require prior
authorization for certain exams in the Appointment Type dictionary, on
page 2. We have ours set to display a warning flag, and this prompts our
schedulers to obtain an authorization number from the person scheduling
the exam. You can also set them up so that the appointment cannot be
booked without an auth number, and there is a text editor so that you
can customize the wording of the warning/reject message.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Order Rule for required authorization number

We have an increasing number of payers that require preauth for MRI's
and CT's. I'm looking for a way to make sure this auth is obtained, and
the number entered into the patient's account prior to the test being
done. My OE specialist says an Order Rule won't work because it would
not consider the patient's payer, but she's looking at developing a
modifier-type CDS that will do almost the same thing.

Anyone else have something that works for you?
