Nancy:
You are correct, in that any line that has a Field/Form Locator box where the
characters can print all the way to the right margin will not print the last
character.
While I have a programming background (which I haven't actually used in a long
time!), and I'm not a hardware expert, I believe that the Printer Quality
settings X1 and Y, and the ELF Dictionary settings, have no impact on the
physical right margin. And in lieu of any technical assistance from Meditech,
that's my opinion of what the problem is...it's a right margin problem. Since
the Printer Quality settings don't actually define the right margin, nor is
there a setting for the right margin in the ELF Dictionary, you can't actually
control them. I tried what Dan said (e.g., set the CPI to 10.12), which does
allow slightly more characters to print per line within the boundaries of the
left/right margins. Using this CPI, the right-most characters in those field
DID print. But the horizontal alignment of the form is now thrown off on all
FLs from the middle of the form to the right edge of the form. So setting a
different CPI is not the solution. I believe that the form w!
as desi
gned to print 82 characters per line at a 10 CPI setting.
But the actual MEDITECH program BAR.PAT.frm.ub04 sets the Characters Per Line
(CPL) to be 82, when the Characters Per Inch (CPI) is 10. So my contention is
that characters are not being allowed to print beyond that limitation. The
problem is that when you look at the layout of the UB04 as published by the
NUBC, there ARE only 82 print positions from left to right.
But since Meditech is being no help on this issue at the clients that I
support, I have no way of determining if the problem is a hardware set-up issue
or a software issue. What I do know is this:
1. Meditech's program appears to set the CPL (e.g., the number of characters
to print from the left margin; e.g., establishing the right margin), which
could be a factor.
2. The HP 4250n can accept a PCL6 program command to set the right margin, but
would need to be done through a software/program commend.
3. If they could change the CPL to be 83 or 84, or have the program sent a
command to the printer to change the right-hand margin, this might make a
difference.
So I have the technical/programming staff at my client site looking more
closely into this issue.
Again, if anyone else in "L" land has found a solution to this problem, and is
using an HP 4250n, I'd love to hear from you. For those that I have
communicated with, it seems like it is a common problem that Meditech is not
addressing. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a programming expert, but
without any help from the software vendor to resolve the problem, I'm reaching
for any reaonsable cause/effect and solution.
Hope this helps.

Gary and Daniel, I have my UB-04 lined up and printing great EXCEPT for those
last two digits on the right! Gary, how would the settings you mentioned below
have an effect on the last two digits on the right? I dont see how the
settings on the printer and the Electronic Forms setup will get the last two
digits to print. Any suggestions?
We dont get the last two digits in Field 4, Field 41 so I would think we would
have a problem with fields 9e, 37, 49, 56, 57, 68, 73.

Thanks, Dan.
It's nice to know that we're not going crazy. I'll give those revised settings
a try, but I'm skeptical that it will work, since I've pretty much tried all
kinds of combinations of set-up, and the line-up wasn't pretty. If payers use
scanning equipment to read in the data from the form, and if the line-up is not
close, this could cause claim denials/rejections.

Gary: Your right...I had not entered info for the third value code
field. I had the same issue, last digit did not print.
We've been tweaking the setup and here's our new settings:
Electronic Forms Setup:
CPI - 10.12
Left Margin - 0.20
LPI - 5.98
Top Margin - 0.099
Printer Configuration:
X1 Shift -8
X2 Shift 0
Y Shift 0
These settings are as close as its going to be. However, for the amount
of paper claims we send out, this will work.
Also we are Magic 5.5 SR1.
Let me know how you make out with the above settings.
