Hi all: I have something that seem really odd to me and it appears to be "working as programmed" but I am wondering if anyone has found a way around it. Apparently, there was an upgrade at one point - in 5.5 I assume - that causes dose calculations to appear on the print order screen whenever ht and t is updated in addition to the original print out on the print order screen of the dose calculation that flags when you initially enter the order. Now, I have come to find out that whenever you update the ht, wt OR allergies, a second dose calculation flag will print out on the print order screen of any orders that were entered prior to the updated allergies.
Why they are printing there after allergy updates does not make sense (except that updates to ht, wt and allergies are all integreted in the same functional area of edit patient data) Why would anyone want to go back and look trough all the dose calculations done after an allergy update. If there was a screen so that all orders with dosage calculations popped up for review after a ht or wt edit, that would make sense. But this does not happen, instead the dose calculation is printed again on the print order screen. Now some of the standard dosage calculations from Medispan are very long - they go on and one for different ages. I had one patient who had a Hydrocodone/apap entered on them, whose allergies (not ht and wt) were updated 3 times. Their print order screen was several pages long. I did find a way around this - sort of - I was able to limit the dose calculation flagging only to dose types that I created (for example CHEMO, PEDIATRIC, an so forth). This means that no Medispan dose caculations of the dose type STANDARD will flag. And so they won't print on the print order. (However, some of our own dose calculations were made using the Dose type STANDARD, and so they won't flag until I find them and chage them all to something else) This eliminates the very long and tedious STANDARD dose claculations from appearring multiplt times on the PRINT ORDER screen after allergies are updated. Of course my own dose calculation types still appear multiple times. Apparently, there was a DTS to add the dose "recalculation" to the print order screen after ht and wt were updated, and so this is working as programmed since the allergies are linked to ht and wt. Has anyone found a clever way to stop this from happening? Am I wrong to think that, logically, new dosage calculations updates should only flag and be printed on the print order screen if ht and wt are updated and not when ALLERGIES are updated?
