In a past setting, I used MM's Equipment Management system (5.5.2 Magic). A CDS attached to the equipment recorded, by patient, start and stop date. This was used for charging and compliance with SMDA requirements to track equipment by patient. It will only work in an environment where these moveable devices are centrally controlled/dispatched/cleaned. Outside of that you are likely looking at an RFID solution, active would be best to tell you where they are. Passive will tell you where they WERE. We "loose" a fair number when we transfer patients to a tertiary hospital. If that hospital's staff likes our pumps, they may keep it. Ifthey don't, we might or not, get back on a future ambulance ruun. But at the tertiary it's a long stretch between the trauma envirinment and getting a pump back to the ambulance entrance with our name on it. We are looking for an affordable program to track where items such as IV Pumps are located at any given time; this would include serial number, model, department or being repaired. Is anyone using Meditech or another vendors solution. Thanks, Doug.
