1. We are Magic 5.5 and use an alpha mnemonic - first
three letters of last name and first two of first name.

2. I would think a numeric would be harder for users to
identify and may contribute to choosing the wrong provider more often
than not.

3. See #1 above - if we have two John L Smiths, first
would be SMIJO and then we would use SMIJL for the second. The expanded
lookup is helpful in these situations.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Provider Mnemonic Naming Convention Standard - C/S
&Magic

All,

We are implementing 5.6.2 and are looking for the following Provider
Dictionary information:

1. Provider mnemonic best practice naming convention - Alpha or
Numeric?

2. What in your experience are the pros and cons for using an Alpha
mnemonic vs. a Numeric mnemonic (i.e., random number, license number
etc.)?

3. What have you seen used, i.e., first three initials of the last name
and first two of the first name, license number, etc.?

On behalf of our team, thanks for any information you can provide.
