Hi Donna,
So how do you code your procedures? And the pneumonics you use, are they the
OR's descriptions? In other words, we shouldn't use the ABS codes because I can
see that they are way too general

Hi Rebecca,

We're C/S 5.5 SR2 and use the ORM. We do not enter the CPT codes from the OR
side, although there is a capability in the Procedure Dictionary to do this.
All of our coding is done on the backside by Coders in Medical Records. We
don't want the OR Staff trying to assign We first implemented in 2000 and built
all of our own Procedure Mnemonics at that time. We are pretty limited with
only 40 characters to enter the description into. When we took an upgrade a few
years ago and the Enter Codes for Abs? query was added to the OR Procedure
dictionary, Meditech defaulted this to Y on our go live day, even though we had
requested it to be set to N for all procedures. It caused a CPT screen to pop
up in the OR Procedures tab and it drove our OR Staff crazy. I manually had to
edit all 900 of our procedures back to N to correct the problem because
Meditech couldn't change it once the conversion had been done.

Subject: Procedures in ORM

Can anyone who is using the ORM module in C/S explain how their procedure
dictionary works? Are you using CPT codes or SNOMED? I am finding that the
procedure dictionary in Meditech is very generalized- too much so for the OR-
so how does everyone workaround their procedure descriptions?
