When a patient presents to registration with a physician that is not in your
Provider Dictionary, what is your process?

-Do you allow registrars access to the Provider dictionary to enter in
new
physicians?
-If you do not, and enter the physicians as "unknown" then how are yout
reports in Lab and Radiology submitted?

Since we are a retirement community, a vast majority of our patients have
physicians from out of state that give the patients orders to continue with
their lab work or radiology exams. We have always entered them into the
sytem as "NOLO" No Local MD, and the lab and radiology departments manually
track these results and fax to the ordering doctor (out-of-state). Now,
with the requirement to have an NPI number on billing, it is become an issue
in attempting to get the physician entered into the system with their
correct NPI number. If you have a better way of entering these types of
physicians, without cluttering up the Provider dictionary, please let us
know. Any input will be appreciated.
