This has been a problem for us since 1999 when we went live with EDI. We have complained, put in a MIX request and still nothing. Meditech's solution was tell us to work with the vendors to shorten the catalog number. It would be helpful if Meditech fixed the problem.

And the problem is getting worse. We've have a MIX request in for a couple of years. They are aware of the problem. The ANSI 850 standard allows for more than 15 characters. Especially since there is so much screen real estate involved as well as reports, It will be a major undertaking. Since we are transmitting more and more EDI orders, that is not a viable solution in my opinion. How have you dealt with this problem? Have you asked Meditech for a custom? They told me that the vendor number shows up in 23 other places in the system, making a custom difficult. Have you considered using a CDS to accommodate the longer numbers?
