What version of the OS are you on? Really as long as you are above 7 you'll be
fine. I believe for 5.6 the recommended is at least 7.3.

We are currently on 7.1 and we just had a change made so that our workstations
looked at the computer first to get the name of it. Otherwise it will request
the name from the list in Meditech and if that fails it will hit your dhcp
server. Really it has always worked but occasionally a pc pick up the wrong
name and as you know many functions are based off the pc and its location.
Anyhow since our "tweak" to force Meditech to query the pc directly we have had
no issues.

When you setup the computers in ops (option 20), if there is an address you
will want to remove it. Unless it still is a static pc. Other than this
you'll setup the nameserver under option 10 manage Open Systems then 7.
Enter/Edit Network Info. I am guessing this is probably already setup even
though you're currently using static address's.

Once you switch to DHCP your network person can still Reserve address's for
printers and other equipment but the equipment as well as Meditech still sees
it a DHCP setup. He/she will want to do this for printers specifically since
you manually map a printer to a name in ops. I think we really only have a
few things here that still have a static address and that's mainly c-arms, mri
and ct as well as most of our servers.
