We are just implementing the function "Restore Admission for Psych/Rehab"
at our hospital but we have several questions to ask before we go live and
we are also looking for any suggestions or advice that you may have to
offer with using this Meditech function?
1. From the Medical Records , Abstracting , Admitting and Billing view
what would you do if a Psych patient was readmitted thru the ED within the 3
days? What happens to that ED encounter in the system after you have just
restored the old Psych account? Does the ED chart that has a different
encounter number stay with the old encounter that's going to the floor?
ABS has brought up that they need to see that ED encounter and that they
will need to abstract also.
2. Since this is a MCR requirement as of right now ... has anyone
experienced a lot of Admission problems when this function was
used
by mistake when registering other insurances that do not
require this? Do you
have any processes in place that prevents or helps you to know
if this is happening?
3. From the clinical side, if a MCR patient has been discharged
from the Psych unit in the hospital to a Critical Care unit (at the same
facility ) like for only 9 hours and then back up to Psych the same day is
it by MCR standard that this patient would be discharged from Psych (
because at this point you don't know how long he will be in CCU) and then
use the Restore Admission function to bring them back to the Psych unit.
Correct? Is there two discharges that will need to be done or just amend
the first one from Psych unit? And what happens to that CCU account... I
guess we would just lose the charges accrued there?
