We currently use Thomson's "Medstat" products, Ascent, CMS & QMS
(Thomson is now the parent company of Solucient).

These product can function from a HL7 Interface or, as we have it set
up, through daily and incremental NPR report downloads. Our set up is
for Meditech to download NPRs every 30 minutes (through a script) to get
as close to real time as possible. These downloads update the QMS
Application where work lists are created for Quality and Case
Management.

Based on other activities in the system, the same application, QMS,
creates work lists for our denial and underpayment staff for follow-up.

I come from an extensive Meditech background and am PRO Meditech all the
way; however, having supported this application I can say that
Meditech's Utilization Review application (found in ABS) still has a
long way to go before it can become as functional as the application we
currently have. In addition, Meditech's reimbursement management
(proration) rules are difficult to write and understand whereas the
contract management and modeling that can be done through the Medstat
product are user friendly (and supported very well by the vendor).
Another great benefit is that the Medstat application uses Crystal
reports which are much easier to write and much faster to run than the
traditional Meditech NPR.

On the downside... anything that has to rely on a script or interface
can be a potential issue... Additionally, since we are using NPR
reports, the information is only as good as the NPR report writer and as
updates occur and processes change, we must ensure that the data capture
is still the same.

So, having said all that:

We are satisfied with the application but always striving for more.

Vendor support on the application is good - have no complaints.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Quality/UR software interfacing to Meditech

Has anyone worked with any Quality/UR/Denial software that interfaces
with Meditech? If so, what are the pros and cons. Are you happy with it?
How is customer support? We are looking into this but are having a hard
time finding vendors who interface to Meditech.
