Hi Everyone,

A few weeks ago, someone asked about criteria for Falls Assessments.  I mentioned the "Criteria Analysis" section of  Picis QM module and got a flood of responses.  I thought I'd just do a write up on how it works and how you can set it up and use it.

Example: Say you have an incident report set up (either a worksheet or response defined worksheet is fine).  Make sure that the type of incidents (falls, medication, other like needlestick) is set up as a TABLE.  So if someone picked MEDICATION ERROR, they would then choose from a table width='100%' what type of error it was (wrong dose, wrong med, time etc).

Now write a report in report writer and do a COUNT on each type of error.  If you just want to compare Medication vs. Falls vs.. other, that's fine, count the falls etc.  If you want to get more detailed, you can set up a COUNT for each entry in the table.

When your report is done, make sure you have the CRITERIA ANALYSIS routine on your menu.  If you don't, go into MIS and search for it.. I can't remember the exact name of the menu, but if you do a *CRIT you'll find it.

Now go into the Criteria Analysis and choose a graph.  When prompted for "Worksheet?", put in your worksheet mnemonic.  Sometimes your prompted for your report.. put in your report mnemonic.  In the count section, put in the counts you set up in your report.  I believe there is a lookup here once you put in your report mnemonic.  File and check out the graphs.  There is a scattergram, bar code and I believe a pie graph.

The graphing features in QM were always ahead of it's time, but now may be a little behind.  I have to say though, for comparison purposes it's still nice.  They also print in color.  Don't forget to put in your X and Y labels as well.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Hope this helps a little!

Thanks!
