We are currently in the midst of building a wireless network. The policy
has not yet been put down on paper but is the direction we are going.

1. Anyone connecting to our wireless network with a non-authorized
piece of equipment (i.e. does not have a valid Cisco shim installed
indicating it is an authorized piece of equipment - pc, phone, printer,
etc.) will be directed to a webpage indicating they can buy time for
internet use or, if they don't agree, that will be as far as they get.
2. For those that agree, they will be directed to go to a
designated place (ex. security/switchboard) where they can pay their
money for a per hour/per day/per month rate and they will be given a
slip with the internet access code (this slip is generated by the actual
guest vlan edge router). They can then enter this code into the
username/password field to get access to the internet (but nothing else
- if they need access to internal data they will need to come in using
an RSA keyfob over a vpn.)

Notes:
- The guest internet is setup using a separate DSL line. All guest
traffic is routed out this DSL using a VLAN.
- The guest internet router is a device that is capable of
generating access codes, that can then be printed and provided to the
customer. The tickets length of life can be set as needed.
- Rogue devices (i.e. wireless routers/switches on our premises)
are automatically treated as rogue and blocked, they can never get
internet access.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Public Wireless Access Policy

I am looking for anyone that has a policy regarding public use of your
wireless internet. I am looking for information on what the IT
department
supports it and any other pertinent information. Thanks for the
information
in advance.
