Daniel put it a much more eloquent verbiage than I did, but that is exactly
what I meant regarding using attribute code not approved by Meditech, If its
not a Meditech approved attribute, your on your own, or at the mercy of the
kindness of this list and guys like Daniel, Bill, Brian, Dave, Kenny and
others who have the imagination, knowledge and expertise to develop these
very useful attributes.

Meditech does support attributes. That support is limited to when they are
evaluated and adding your "third party programming" into their own when the
screen is translated. I don't understand how you think that Meditech should
be held responsible for all the different ways non-programmers could find to
make something work. We need to be realistic here.

If you purchase Microsoft Office and start to use Excel as it comes out of
the box, but then find that your spreadsheet would be improved by creating a
macro or some complicated formula, you would not expect Microsoft to
"support" that part of your spreadsheet. They might host frequently asked
questions or a forum on their web site, but their support team would not be
responsible for making sure you are referencing correct cells or using
appropriate logic.

The same holds true for Meditech and attributes. They support our ability
to use them, they don't support the code we put inside them.

Agree 100%. If Meditech supported attributes, then a ring release would and
should be a piece of cake instead of the analysts having to pull their hair
out and rework cds's during testing.

If I removed my attributes from all my nursing documentation screens I would
have a staff mutiny on my hands and fear for my life :-)

Attributes allow you to make Meditech do what it should have been able to do
in the first place. The only problem with using attributes that Meditech
does not support, (about 80% of mine) is when they change the code for a new
ring release, you have to figure out how to rewrite the attribute to use the
new code, and they will not help you.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] NUR Assessment documentation and use of Attributes

Hello L List NUR users,

We are a MAGIC site in the process of implementing NUR for the first time.
We are utilizing several attributes ( skip queries, pop-up boxes, etc.) on
our admission and shift assessments in the hopes that they will save
clinicians time.

We are looking for validation as to the use of attributes, insight into the
pros and cons because we are hearing that while they can be a time saver,
they can slow staff down as well. Thanks in advance for sharing any of your
real-world attribute experiences (pro and con)with us.

Our plan includes the use of the Iatric VFS too.
