Hi Diane,
You "could" create a Clinical Data Category and set it at the device
level for any Override Med and require a response (say user initials).
It is not an auditable method to track electronically indicated
acceptance however. There would have to be an element of trust there.
Perhaps Pyxis could add a field to the CDC called "requires witness" and
code for that scenario. It might be easier than trying other
configurations and I could actually have used this myself. We created
separate mnemonics for our MAT unit for them to be able to override
without a witness but that was about 6 drugs. Push Pyxis/Cardinal on
this and see if they will consider this additional functionality. If you
get this, I owe you a drink of your beverage of choice!
Good luck on this one!

Subject: Pyxis Critical Override After Pharmacy Closed
We have Pyxis 3500 - profile on all inpatient units. Also, our Emergency
Department is profiled and has physician order entry.
I am trying to develop a way to place our inpatient nursing units on a
critical override at night, and require a 2nd RN witness each needed
removal. I am told by Pyxis that if I do this the ED will also require
a witness for each removal that they do on override. Because of the
nature of the ED this would too cumbersome to do.
Has anyone developed a way to do this. Pyxis is telling us we will need
a separate console. Would we also need a separate interface from
MediTech?
Any help or thoughts on this would be appreciated.
