What you have described should work. However, when you say it doesn't
scan what do you mean?

Does the scanner beep when you try to read the barcode?

Have you tried opening up notepad and scanning? This will tell you
exactly what the scanner is reading without having an application
interpret the data.

It could be that your scanner is not programmed to read that barcode
format (Code39). If the other barcodes you are scanning are in a
different format that is programmed they will read. To test that theory
change your computed field to be DAT=CODE.128 This will produce a
different format for you.

Another thing to consider is if there is enough white space surrounding
the barcode. Having something too close to the barcode will affect
reading, as well as having other pieces of data overlaying your barcode.
Try creating a new report with just the barcode on it and try scanning
that.

As you can see there aer lots of variables, it is just a matter of
narrowing them down.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Bar Codes Not Scanning for RAD $T/PowerScribe

We are testing PowerScribe in our Radiology department and I am printing
a bar coded exam number on our requisition. When the bar code is
scanned, nothing happens. The same scanner can scan every other bar
code (other bar codes on reports, pop cans, Kleenex boxes, etc.), except
the one I am printing on the requisition. It will even scan other bar
codes on other reports printed from the same printer I am using for the
requisition. It has to be something specific with my field.

I thought is was possible too small, so I added the SIZE=3 option to my
computed field. It made the bar code taller, but still not readable.

This is what my computed field looks like:

DAT=BAR.CODE

LEN=30

SIZE=3

Any ideas?
