Sarah,

Assuming you are a Magic facility you can set this up pretty easily
using VMagic (PPII) Printing and a free PDF converter called PrimoPDF
from a company called ActivePDF.

If you don't know how to set up VMagic printing go to
http://www.meditech.com/prsystems/Pages/SYSmcSCppiisetup.htm and read
the instructions on how to set it up. As a general rule go ahead and
update your Remote Workstation client to the latest version before you
do this. Also I noticed that we typically have to manually start the
VMagicPPII.exe program the first time and then reboot the machine.
After that it should run automatically as a service on startup. Be
aware that if you are running Windows XP firewall you will get an alert.
Go ahead and click unblock when asked.

Once VMagic printing is working install PrimoPDF. You can get it at
www.PrimoPDF.com <http://www.primopdf.com/> . The setup file is named
FreePrimo32Setup.exe. Run it and follow the on screen instructions.
When you are finished with the installation you have the option of
reading the online manual (you can blow past this). The program
installs itself as a printer. When you print out of any Windows
Application (including MEDITECH Remote Workstation) you can select it as
the printer you want to use and it will pop up a dialog box for PrimoPDF
that allows you to save the printer output to a file on your PC. You
have the option to save the PDF with encryption, passwords, print
restrictions, edit restrictions, document properties, etc. The manual
covers all of the different features including how to change resolution
and version of the PDF format you want to use when saving your files to
PDF.

To use it with MEDITECH I typically print the NPR report I want to
capture to PREVIEW (notice I wrote PREVIEW and not VIEW). That will run
MEDITECH Document Manager. This gives you the opportunity to select
PrimoPDF as the printer you want to use, otherwise you would have to set
PrimoPDF as your default Windows printer and print to LOCAL. Click on
the Printer Icon at the top of the screen and you will be prompted for
the Printer you want to use. Click the little down arrow and PrimoPDF
should be on your list of printers. Select it and click OK and follow
the screens. You can change the Save As: path and file name and/or
change all the setting you wish. PrimoPDF is a really nice little
program. One thing to look at: If memory servers PrimoPDF is set to
append files by default. If you want to overwrite files by the same
name you will need to click on the Options button on the PrimoPDF dialog
box and click on the Overwrite radio button. The manual covers this and
all of the other settings.

ActivePDF also has a relatively inexpensive version for companies that
want to automatically distribute and customize PrimoPDF using a MSI
file. We're using just the free version right now on a few machines,
but it works like a charm.

I hope this helps,

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Creating pdf file from an NPR report

Hello,

Has anyone been able to download and store an NPR report as pdf file?
We would like to take the report output and store it as an object in a
pdf format.

Kind Regards,
