This is not entirely Meditech related, but I thought someone on the list
would have knowledge in this area. We are trying to find out how other
facilities provide estimates for surgical procedures for patients. We
have been inundated with calls from self pay patients who are shopping
around for their elective procedures. I would like to know the
following:
1. How do you derive the estimate - e.g. do you pull historical
data for that procedure code from ABS or BAR and provide an average?
2. Do you require the patient to sign any type of disclaimer prior
to receiving the estimate?
a. If so, what items are included in the disclaimer?
3. Do you provide estimates over the phone?
Any information that you could pass on would be greatly appreciated!
