Network Analyst II

REPORT TO:      Responsible to the Sr Network Analyst III and/or HIT
Director,  working closely with HIT Staff  to design & implant new
technology & maintain infrastructure for the IT department as well as
NWHC users.


JOB DESCRIPTION:                

The Network Analyst II is accountable for designing, installing,
configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining all Network
infrastructure including related hardware equipment and software to
ensure optimal operation of all Networks including Local Area Networks,
Storage Area Networks and Wide Area Networks. The Network Analyst II
handles assignments of a more complex nature with limited
direction/guidance and provides guidance and direction to the Network
Analyst I. 

Ensures optimal performance of all Networks by proactively conducting
ongoing performance monitoring and by tuning/adjusting as necessary. 

Provides effective Level III operations support on as needed basis by
researching/analyzing issues/requests to determine Network related
implications, effectively communicating with all impacted parties and by
troubleshooting and resolving issues to minimize any system downtime. 

Ensures optimal Network design and set-up by conducting effective new
hardware/software installations, hardware/software replacements/upgrades
and by performing reconfigurations as needed. Effectively manage
multiple projects simultaneously. 

Ensures Network security integrity by correctly configuring and
maintaining Network hardware/software and by monitoring and maintaining
security systems (e.g. intrusion detection system, firewalls, etc.). 

Maintain and actively participate in shaping HIT policy and Procedures
with focus on JCAHO and Federal compliance.
Actively assist in maintaining the CIS Security Database & Disaster
Recovery Planning and Testing.

Participate in On-Call as assigned by the Sr Network Analyst III or the
Director of HIT.  Maintain communications and schedule; so as to assure
adequate shift coverage.


Continually researches & maintains working knowledge of new & upcoming
infrastructure technology related to IT.  Assists in developing the
skills of the Network Analyst I by providing guidance and direction.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

High School Diploma or GED required. A Bachelor's Degree in Computer
Science plus three to five years of Network related experience; or
equivalent combination of education or experience preferred. 


COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & CERTIFICATIONS 

* MCSA / MCSE 2000/2003 Certified & strong working knowledge of AD &
GPOs best practices, design & implementation.
* Extensive knowledge of routers, switches, network infrastructure
design, protocol and network analyzers, wiring standards, and the TCP/IP
protocol. 
* The position requires a mature and responsible individual with strong
initiative, analytical skills and judgment to independently handle
assignments. 
* Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPN, Portals, and VOIP. 
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
* Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability. 
* Strong attention to detail skills. 
* Working knowledge of WANs (T1's, T3's, MANS and point-to-point) . 
* Familiarity with setting up network printers and printing. 
* Familiarity with thick vs thin Wireless AP architecture & captive
portals.
* Demonstrated ability to work in teams with a collaborative
interpersonal style. 
* Good verbal and written communications skills with the ability to
effectively document procedures. 
* Must be able to work weekends and after business hours as required. 
* Possess accurate keyboarding proficiency. 
* Must be self-motivated to learn all aspects of networking. 
* Energetic and eager to learn.
* It is preferred that the Network Analyst has experience with a
mid-range LAN of at least 500 users. 
* It is preferred that the Network Analyst have two years of experience
in health care or an equivalent level of customer service experience.
