Hi everyone, a few moments ago I did a new release of tumbler (0.1.20) in order to have an upstream version that overrides the tumbler package created for Maemo, MeeGo and/or Harmattan (I'm not even sure; all I know is that someone decided to version his tumbler packages independently of upstream releases).
In a private conversation (why private? I don't know) we decided to aim at merging modifications from the Maemo repository into upstream. As for the somewhat incompatible thumbnail storage (PNG upstream vs. JPEG in Maemo) we'll try to push for a change in the Thumbnail Managing Standard to use JPEG entirely. In case this change is accepted we can slowly move applications over to using JPEG without causing serious harm. Changes related to libquill will not be merged into upstream tumbler as they bypass internal interfaces like ThunarThumbnail which were explicitly designed not to depend on anything GdkPixbuf-specific to allow other image toolkits to be used. The quill cache plugin can be packaged separately for MeeGo to replace the default xdg-cache plugin. I'm not advertising this myself though as it doesn't following the Thumbnail Managing Standard. First we should either add thumbnail storage information to the tumbler API or (which I'd prefer) have an agreement with the authors of the Thumbnail Managing Standard and people on freedesktop.org to use JPEG thumbnails from now on. I hope this resolves a few of the issues discussed. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. - Jannis _______________________________________________ MeeGo-packaging mailing list [email protected] http://lists.meego.com/listinfo/meego-packaging
