I am the maintainer. Should it be not up to me to decide how I want to maintain
the package, if it's within the agreed packaging policies?

Thanks for explaining me what is convenient for me, but I must say it's not
easy, good, or convenient in my case, because I worked with RPMs for more than
five years and know the nooks and crannies of the spec format and most of its
macros. There is no need for me to hide that under yet another layer of
syntactic quirks, which I must learn to do what I already know how to do.

Cheers,
  Mikhail
