Doing so will break all current (MTF and QML) reference apps that have anything to do with indexing, searching, listing and managing contacts. What is the replacement and will it be transparent to the reference apps and libseaside? Is this being done pre-1.2 freeze (4/29/2011, AKA, tomorrow)? If so, that doesn't leave much time to fix bugs due to new backend QtContacts engine...
