Hi,
As previously communicated in various forums we are moving to RPM 4.9 in the
Trunk targeting the next release. If all works according to plan, rpm will be
submitted to Trunk:Testing later today to allow rebuild over the weekend.
Many of the packages in Trunk have been fixed to cope with the new RPM and
nothing to be done on your side.

The original release announcement:

The number of changes since RPM 4.8.x is vast, but here's a (very) short
summary of some of the highlights and more visible changes:

General:
* Rpm now refuses to install packages which are obsoleted by an
  already installed package
* Allow installation of self-conflicting packages
* -i/--info query format has been changed to a more readable
  "tag: value" per line formatting
* New command line utilities for spec queries (with much
enhanced functionality), package signing, keyring operations
  and database maintenance

Package building:
* Dependency generators are now pluggable and filterable
* Package scriptlets can now be macro-expanded during transaction
* Packages can now supply extra transaction ordering hints
* Short-circuiting binary builds is now permitted (but
  such packages are deliberately "poisoned")
