To me it looks like two things get mixed up in this thread: * "Assigned To: $person" * "Status: ASSIGNED" Current content of wikipage linked above sounds ambiguous to me, hence proposing changes to clarify: > # Analyze and assign bug to proper component Proposal: Analyze and move bug to proper component if needed > # Assign bug to proper bug owner Proposal: Set Assignee of bug report (via "Assigned to" field) to proper bug owner In my opinion ASSIGNED *status* (instead of NEW) should only be set by a developer when the developer actually works or plans to work on fixing a bug report in the very near future in order to express that nobody else should spend time on fixing and to avoid duplicated efforts.
