Note that the patch referenced in this post reduces the memory requirements for dispersive materials on multiple processors (it fixes a bug where the memory was gratuitously duplicated). It does nothing for you on a single processor.

Right now, Meep uses more memory than it needs to for dispersive materials because it keeps track of some things that are needed to implement saturable gain (a currently undocumented feature), even when this is not being used. However, even if this were fixed, it's not going to change the memory requirement by an order of magnitude.
