Dear Steven,

Thanks. After some efforts with the axes, plot in matlab, right now i
could plot the diagram as the  example of the holey cavity with a
minor difference.

Now in the example, as stated below:

"The mode has a frequency of 0.235, just as we saw in the transmission
spectrum, and a Q of 373 (which we could have also found by fitting
the transmission spectrum)."

how could i find out the fitting curve to evaluate the Q-factor 373 in
such case by using matlab?

even thought i know the definition of 1/Q=df/f_max.

Inset plots are created in Matlab by using the axes('pos', [....])
command.  Google for "inset plot Matlab", or ask on the
comp.soft-sys.matlab newsgroup for more information.
