Dear all,

I am trying to simulate EM waves through a metal (Cr) masked grating
with Meep, and have been trying to use the dispersive dielectric
material-type.
I have extrapolated the parameters omega, gamma, and delta-epsilon from
indicies of refraction given in references using the Drude model and the
"Dielectric materials for Meep" page in the Wiki, but did not understand
how to obtain the parameter epsilon ("epsCr" in the below piece of code)
in this case.

(material (make dielectric (epsilon epsCr) (polarizations (make
polarizability (omega omegaCr) (gamma gammaCr) (delta-epsilon depsCr)))

It seems like with numbers such as 1 or the real part of the dielectric
constant of Cr, the field seems to blow up at the interface of the metal
and starts expanding, regardless turning on or off eps-averaging.
I have seen in the archives of this list that there are people who used
numbers such as 9.75 for gold, but I could not figure out how that fits
in to the equation given in the "Dielectric materials for Meep" page in
the Wiki.

By the way, inserting the number 9.75 to my code seems to work and
blowing up does not occur in this case (although I am not sure if that
correctly simulates the behaviour for a Cr mask).

I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me out or give me some
insight with the parameter epsilon in dispersive dielectric materials.

Thank you very much,

Satoshi
