If you get a chance, please try it with a parallel HDF5 library as well; I/O is usually more reliable in the parallel HDF5. (The only reason I have the hacks to support the serial HDF5 in parallel mode is because the HDF5 folks made it annoyingly difficult to have both the serial and parallel HDF5 libraries on the same machine.)
