Dear Steven, dear meep-users

I have a question about the convergence of the quality-factor using
different resolutions. I’m trying to optimize a M0-cavity in a triangular
photonic crystal slab. For an unoptimized structure, I tested the
convergence of the quality-factor for different resolutions up to 32. At a
resolution of 20, the Q-factor starts to converge to Q~50000. After a long
optimization process by shifting holes or decreasing the radii, I get a
Q-factor of 715000 using resolution 20. But applying resolution 32 or 28,
harminv finds a Q-factor of only Q~250000. Why does the convergence not set
in any longer at resolution 20 for higher Q-factors? How can I be sure that
my structure is really optimized and the higher Q-factor is not due to a
“resolution-problem”?

I would appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Best regards

Janine Riedrich-Moeller
