Dear Prof. Steven and meep user,

Although this question has already been posted on the mail list, I am
still confused concerning PML.

Following the post , I understand better how I have to place the PML
(Thanks to one meep user: Mischa Meegens). However, I am wondering if in
my case the use of PML is necessary. Since "For any such case (periodic
medium) PML seems to be irrevocably spoiled" according to "Notes on
Perfectly Matched Layers" written by S. Johnson.

In fact, I simulated a waveguide and coupled cavity in a triangular PhC
slab (periodicity along x and y) to study transmission/reflection
spectrum. The PML overlaps the structure and the boundary condition is
set as metallic walls (by default). I have obtained some quite good
curve but I don't know if what I did is wrong or not.

So, in my case, will it be preferable to use PML only along x
(corresponding to the direction to the waveguide) and along z ,and
periodic boundaries as boundary conditions along y?
Or should I simply not use PML at all.

Thank you in advance,

Cedric Perrotton
