The sources in Meep are current sources, i.e. they are the J terms in  
Maxwell's equations.  In the interface they are labelled Ex or Hy etc.  
according to what components of the electric/magnetic fields they  
correspond to, which may be a bit confusing, but they are bona-fide  
currents sources.
