Dear Steven, dear MEEP users,

I am wondering about following result. I am calculating the resonant
frequencies of 2-d *open* resonator with Dirichlet boundary condition
and some opening on the boundary. To start, I just tried to calculate
the eigenfrequencies of the square. I am cutting the 1x1 square of air
from the metallic background, run calculation with resolution 10. The
resulting frequency of the ground mode is 0.588. The result is slowly
changing with growing resolution.

If I take the empty calculation cell of 1x1 I obtain the expected result
0.707.

The difference is huge, what is the origin of this? If I want to
simulate the open resonator with arbitrary shape can I trust Meep?

Best Regards
Maksim
