I know this has been discussed in the mailing list for many times. I searched
in the archives and tried almost every method mentioned there, but still I have
this problem.
What I wanna simulate is the loss caused by the bend structure of a large rib SOI waveguide. I did exactly the same as the tutorial says. Run two simulations, first with the straight waveguide, and then with the bended one. In my case, it's a 90 degree round bend with radius r=50um.
My wavelength is 1550nm, and I set it to be 3.1 in Meep unit. So I tried pml=3
or 6 (in 3 directions or just in x,z directions to save memory and time. The y
direction is the height of the waveguide.), with which I still got the
transmission flux greater than 1.
I use a gaussian source centered at 1550nm. before I used a pulse width of 0.2 in frequency, I thought it might be too wide, so I reduced it to df=0.1, but still didn't help. The transmission spectrum is almost the same.
I define the transmission flux at the end of the waveguides (both straight and
bended), away from pml by one wavelength, twice larger than the rib width. I
also define the reflection flux in the beginning of the waveguides, away from
the source (also pml) by one wavelength. (The reflection is actually almost
zero in my case, so I don't really care about it.)
I use "run-sources+" and "stop-when-fields-decayed" function to stop the
simulation when the field in the flux region center decayed by 1e-6.
I used the same code to run the simulation for bend radius r=20um or less.
Which works fine. But since the transmission is very small, I want to increase
the radius to a larger value. I tried r=50um and r=80um, which both gave
transmission greater than 1. I even didn't try my target radius of r=100um.
The only thing I can imagine to do is increase the resolution, which is also
the least thing I wanna do. Because it already takes ~40GB memory to simulate
the r=50um case with resolution of 10.
I've attached my .ctl file and the flux data. I hope someone can give me a clue
about the possible solution to this problem. Thank you for your time!
