The "synchronized-magnetic" function was introduced in Meep 0.20, so it should be available in your version.

Try running "meep" with no arguments, and at the "meep>" prompt, type

        synchronized-magnetic

The result should be:

        #<procedure synchronized-magnetic step-funcs>

indicating that synchronized-magnetic is defined. If it gives "unbound variable synchronized-magnetic" then I'm not sure what's going on, but your Meep installation may be seriously messed up.
