Hi Liu,

For the calculation of Q factor in meep, the following two things
can be followed.

1. Harminv- it will give precise Q value. But we have to mention the time
   units.
2. Transmission spectrum/ Normalized intensity sectrum
In that u can excite pulse centered on ur desired frequency with
short pulse width. Record the flux after the source is completely turned off
with in-built function in the solver "stop-when-field-decayed" .

Normalize the fluxes with and without the structure. You will get the
spectrum. Measure the FWHM (full-width at half maximum)of the spectral
response and calculate Q= f/delf.

You can refer Page. No. 16 of meep tutorial. both are same.

My opinion

I like the latter one for Q calculation than Harminv. Because I don't need
to specify the additional time units. In fact , no idea about the
additional time units particularly for resonating structures.

if anything wrong in this, please notify me.

With regards,
N. Yogesh.
