I just upgraded from Meep-1.0 to Meep-1.1.1 on a cluster running RHEL/CentOS-5.3 and the test suite failed in "symmetry" (details below). The failure occurs for both serial and parallel compilation at the same (x,y,t) tuple and was apparently triggered by the following:

This gives a fractional error of 1.20352e-09
This comes out to a fractional error of 9.57653e-12

You might try slightly increasing the "eps_compare" and "thresh_compare" constants at the top of symmetry.cpp, to see if you are just seeing roundoff errors slightly larger than we have on our machines and we set the tolerances slightly too low.
