you uninstall your meep from synaptic manager.Then update your ubuntu 10.4 using update manager. once your ubuntu 10.4 will be gets updates it will have proper information about meep also.Since meep is open sources software i don't think you need any serial number to use it.
command to install meep from terminal : sudo apt-get install meep sudo apt-get install mpi * mpi for mpi package the above command will work only when your repository will be completely update.
