Hi Andrea,

Yes unfortunately turning off eps averaging was the only way I could obtain consistent results for this type of cavity: doi:10.1063/1.3487937 Note that you will have to increase your resolution beyond 30 to obtain convergence of your results due to the small lattice shifts.

Dear meep users and developers,

I wrote to this list several days ago about a problem in dealing with cavities like those of http://link.aip.org/link/APPLAB/v88/i4/p041112/s1&Agg=doi <http://link.aip.org/link/APPLAB/v88/i4/p041112/s1&Agg=doi>

Specifically, type A3 of that paper. The simulation diverges, as I can realize by probing he Hz field at its center.

Using z-reflection symmetry, I noticed divergence does not appear with a lattice 32x25sqrt(3) large, but occurs with a larger one.

I tried reducing Courant factor (up to 0.2), and adjusting subpixel-tol to 1e-8 or 1e-2, and finally increasing the cutoff up to 12.0.

No solution worked, only switching eps-averaging off.

I hope this could help to identify the bug or to suggest a better solution.

Thank you.

Yours Andrea.
