Did you set the correct phase for symmetry? Look at the manual...
As a starter you could try a Hz source with phase -1 for the symmetry plane...

Subject: [Meep-discuss] Symmetry in 2D TM polarization

Hello,

I'm running a 2D simulation (x,y) that has a Y mirror symmetry of geometry. The
source is Gaussian.

When I simulate the TE polarization (source generates Ez), I use the mirror
symmetry around Y command and all goes well.

However, if I try to do that for the TM polarization (source generates Ey), I
get erroneous results, unless I cancel the symmetry command.

Is there some way to apply symmetry for the TM polarization too?

Thx,
David
