Do you already get a command prompt in a terminal after running the meep command? i.e. something like this: "meep>"

Once that works, I would start following the official meep tutorial here:

A few tips:
-To exit the meep prompt, just hit ctrl+D
-"unix%" in the meep tutorial refers to the normal terminal prompt ("bash prompt"), which in Ubuntu usually looks like this: "USER@HOST:~$" -All the other commands with parentheses around them are meant to be entered at the meep prompt or in a .ctl file which is then run with meep using: "meep /foo.ctl/ >& /foo.out/" -"meep /foo.ctl/" also works, but will not store the output in a file "/foo.out/"
