Hello All, In the MEEP tutorial for band diagrams, in the part of generating the band diagram (last part of the tutorial), the simulation is of a 'xy' slice of a waveguide. By putting the Hz source off-center in the x direction (propagation direction) the author says :
"Notice that we put our source at (0.1234,0). The *x* coordinate is "random", to help ensure that the source will couple to an arbitrary mode, but the *y* coordinate is 0 — this means that we will only be looking at TE-polarized *odd*-symmetry modes" I dont understand the reason that we will only get TE modes? When we have Hz couldnt we get E-field in either x or y direction? Then how can this be a TE mode since the propagation direction is X.? I would be really grateful if someone can clarify this for me? Thanks.
