We recently added an output_dft <http://meep.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Python_User_Interface/#output-functions> routine which writes the Fourier-transformed fields to an HDF5 file. An example is provided in the new frequency-domain solver <http://meep.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Python_Tutorials/Frequency_Domain_Solver/> tutorial.
We will soon add a routine (get_dft_slice) to access these fields directly without having to write to a file.
