Thanks for the message and the info…yes it is helpful because it narrows down 
the problem.

I you have an Ubuntu OS, give the parallel meep a try and see if you can get it 
to work.  You don’t need a multicore processor or a cluster (at least I don’t 
think you do)…the parallel environment works in Scheme even if you are just 
using one core so I presume it should in python meep as well.  The CONDA 
instructions on the GitHub readthedocs site are simple and straight forward. It 
installs as its own environment so you don’t have to worry about messing up 
your stand-alone installation.
